Lagos community laments harassment

The residents of Sala community in the Epe area of Lagos State have appealed to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to save them from land grabbers, who they accused of attacking the community.

They alleged that the land grabbers had succeeded in dispossessing some families of about five hectares of land, adding that many of them claimed to be state government officials without showing any document to back the claim.
The Chairman of the Sala Community Development Association, Chief Mufutau Ogunniyi, also lamented the destruction of farm crops worth millions of naira by the said officials while moving their tractors to the village.
He said, “The government officials have not been able to provide any document; most of us are farmers and we have been using our land for farming for more than 40 years without any hindrance.
“We have petitioned the Lagos State Taskforce Committee on Land Grabbing, but our petition has yet to be replied to.”
He urged Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, to set up a committee to investigate the matter and prosecute those behind the attack.
